We are a community group of some thirty members who came together in July 2010. Our mission is to promote and assist local visual and performing artists, and our vision is to have the Kaipara region recognised as a significant art community.
We produce a highly attractive brochure which introduces local artists. This is distributed to tourist information spots and venues. We have staged an art auction and variety concert featuring the nationally recognised singer Ray Woolf, participated in the Kaipara Kai Festival and organised a Matariki Art Competition for local Early Childhood to Intermediate Schools, funded by Te Puni Kokiri.
Recently we opened the Muddy Waters Gallery at the Gumdiggers corner, Dargaville. The Gallery is currently open for viewing from 10am - 4pm Monday - Wednesday, 10am - 5.30pm Thursday and 10am- 1pm Saturday. This is an exciting Gallery with a range of works from local artists, where you will be enthused by the variety and quality of the exhibits. All of the items exhibited are for sale.
Once every six to eight weeks or so we hold Art in the Garden at Lifestyler House on River Road. These afternoon events are part of our fundraising activities for the Association and cost $10 per person, with lunch included. Anyone is welcome to attend by booking with our secretary, and events will be advertised in the classified section of The Kaipara Lifestyler or at the Muddy Waters Gallery
We also intend to hold workshop tuition in various mediums during the coming year. We have plans to bring in an international acrylic artist, and to hold workshops in pastel, raku pottery and possibly stagecraft. These workshops will be promoted as planning firms up and dates are set.
